Mornington Peninsula Shire Council in conjunction with DELWP is about to undertake some much needed maintenance dredging at the Rye Boat Ramp.
For some time the sand build up in the access channel has posed a risk to boating and reduced the useable width of the access channel significantly.
Work will commence on 8th March 2015 and take about 3 weeks, Dredged spoil will be used by DEWLP in beach replenishment works nearby.
Discussions are also underway with the council to look at lighting access channel marks to improve boating safety for night time use. Previous proposals to light navigation marks have not been supported by Parks Vic but Alliance member SEALITE, is prepared to assist with the design and implementation of a lighting system and this high level support might influence PV and help move this improvement opportunity along.
