Mark Abbott and his team launched a new 50′ wooden cabin cruiser at Mornington on 22nd September in brilliant sunshine and calm seas, perhaps a portent for the new owner Ross Wilson from Sorrento.
The hull is based on a very seaworthy American design but the superstructure and fit-out is all local design to Ross’s exacting standards. The vessel is the result of more than 2 years of hard labour and Ross says this included making a full scale mock up of the superstructure to make certain that her “lines” looked just right.
Her classic lines beguiling but this competent cruiser is well supported by the latest communications and navigation technology. Powered by a 530HP Yanmar diesel and with a fuel capacity of 2000l and a cruising speed of 15knts, Aranui will make short work of trips planned for Tasmania ( to participate in the Wooden Boat Festival) and to many point along the Australian coast.
Aranui will comfortably accommodate 4 people for extended passages but has plenty of room for more visitors for onboard functions.
Congratulations to Mark and his team at Rosebud on their success which stands as a great example of the depth of craftsmanship in the Peninsula’s Marine Trades Sector.
